Minnesota Guidebooks

An indispensable resource as a climber, keeping an updated guidebook with you as you venture outside is a must. They offer crucial information for all skill levels - climbing ethics, safety, route updates, regional etiquette and so much more. These are a few of our favorites here in Minnesota, which you can buy online. Check out what your local gym may offer too!

Online guidebook - the mountain project

A treasure trove of a resource - over 2,000 Minnesota routes, and an even larger database listing 295,585 routes within the United States, shared by climbers like you. Great place to find photos, current reviews and ratings, route descriptions and more.

MN & WI BOULDERING GUIDEBOOK

A two-fer-one! A guide to both Minnesota and Wisconsin bouldering, this unique flip-design book features long anticipated maps and descriptions for boulders ranging from Devils Lake, WI to the world-class climbing in Sandstone, MN.

Superior climbs | a climbers guide to the north shore

We love guidebooks! And the historical perspective that they can convey. This is another out-of-print gem dedicated to all things North. There is a section on rock within the city limits of Duluth as well as a chapter on North Shore ice climbs. Richard Kollath’s hand illustrations of the crags and respective routes make this book special.

Ice climbs of the lake superior region

An Ice climbing guidebook for the Midwest? Yep. This out-of-print goldmine covers Ice in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario. The section dedicated to Minnesota’s The North Shore is obviously our favorite. If you see a copy of this in the basement of a used book store, you know what to do. Yes, that is Conrad Anker on the cover crushing it in Ontario.
